Club Mentoring Workshops are at 9:00 am on the third Saturday of the month at Ferris High School’s Woodshop

These hands-on mentoring workshop are intended to help members gain confidence using the lathe and woodturning tools and may include brief demonstrations. Members should plan on bringing their own woodturning tools and wood so they may become more more familiar with them in their own shops.

Vet’s Garage mentoring is on the 1st Saturday of the month AND every Tuesday from 12:30 – 3:30 PM and Thursday from 1:30 to 4:30 PM

Doug mentors club members at the Vets Garage at 224 E. Pacific Avenue in Spokane from 12:30 – 3:30 every Tuesday and Thursday. Take advantage of these one-on-one sessions and work on the midi lathes! Please note that this program is only only open current members. For more information about the Vet’s Garage visit their website or call (509) 919-3176. You may also Contact Doug for more information on attending these mentoring sessions or on how you can help out.

We will always be grateful to Rosemary and Nick from Woodcraft Spokane for kindly allowing our club to meet in their store. Conditions have changed, and as a thank-you for our club member's contribution to the Ferris High School woodworking program we have been offered use of their woodworking shop for our monthly meetings and our Saturday workshops. A few decades ago, this club started out in an old, small shop at Ferris.  It is remarkable and wonderful that we are back in a new and extremely large shop. It is spacious and well equipped and a great fit for our activities!

Community Programs

High School Student Mentoring is once a week from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

We assist students through demonstrations and mentoring while turning on various size lathes and projects, while encouraging safety. The students are all eager to learn and make something they can take home!

Fairchild Air Force Base mentoring is the first Saturday of each month*

*Fairchild Air Force Base is currently on COVID19 lock down to outsiders.  In the before times, members of INW visited the base to help mentor beginning turners on the lathe.  The wood shop at FAFB is fantastic and they have several lathes on which we can help military staff and retired military learn our wonderful craft.  We will update the status of this valuable program once restrictions are lifted.

Lend-a-Lathe

Our “Lend-a-Lathe” Program is designed primarily for new turners getting started in woodturning. Currently a Rikon Midi  and a Jet Midi are available, with an initial 3-month loan period for members.  For questions, applications and supporting materials contact Damon, the program director. You can use the “Contact INW” message page and the request will be forwarded to Damon.
